Subject: [Cave-survey-archive] geology font
Hi All

Here is the first draft of a cave geology font. it delineates the strata
in Carboniferous limestone and is therefore suitable for over 90% of the UK
caves.

I suugest that in preparing a survey the symbols be allocated as follows:-

One at each entrance and for each of the main routes a symbol at the point
which marks the top of each stratum.

It would be possible to expand it to include key fossil types but there are
a lot of these and no regular symbolic method of differentiating them. I
think thay therefore best inserted as text notation. The D2, K1 notation
on the other hand is well known to geologists.

If this approach is agreed I will see about adding additional symbols to
this font for other cavernous UK limestones (magnesian, oolitic, devonian).

A separate font will be necessary for mines and underground quarries due to
the range of strata involved.
